With the G-2 fresh in our minds, I thought I'd draw up the SS-2 as well. This is set up for a 125B like the G-2 due to the footswitch board. The circuit itself is like an MXR Distortion + with a tone control and a gain recovery stage. Originals utilize 2, LM741 chips, but I've drawn it up for a LM1458 (which is a dual version of the 741) to make things a little easier and save space.
I am really excited about this layout. I have a question regarding the layout above. Which is correct on the layout above for the 4.7N and 10N? Do they go up and down or side to side because the 2 diagrams are different. do they both go to drive 2? I really appreciate your help.
The PCB version is different because I'm not tied to 0.1" spacing like I am with perf. The connections made are the same though. If you're building on perf follow the left layout. If you're etching a PCB follow the right.
I finished creating this pedal. I built the buffer and connected them together just like the original. I like the 1458 instead of 2 LM741's. I am still boxing this but it sounds great. Thank you for your awesome Layout.
I finally finished this build with the buffer. It really sounds amazing. I decided to put it in true by pass rather than wire it inline like the original. The buffer is there if you hit the switch which keeps the tone correct. Here is a link to my build.
Thank you so much for your complement. I really love this site. I etched the G2 and double buffer as well. Can't wait to build them. I have built both with Vero but it will be cool with PCB. Thank you again for your hard work.
Sorry, I'm making a bit of a mess with this post.... I built SS2 but I have a little problem: when I turn drive pot it has effect only at the end of its turn. Please can anyone help me? Thanks
Thanks for your answer.... I solve the problem and i hope it is a suggestion for anyone: i replaced linear B50k pot with a reverse C50k and now all works perfectly. Great stomp!
this 1N5401 diode can be replaced by 1N4002 ? tanks
ReplyDeleteYep that'll work fine

Here is a link to how the original is wired if anyone is interested.

DeleteHi Dennis, can you tell me how to wiring this pedal with 3pdt?
DeleteThanks for the layout!! I can't wait to try it!

Make sure the pot is good and that you're using the right value. You can also try using a 100k pot instead of 50k.

It works, the drawing is good. I built a few pedals from the drawings here. Thanks for them.
ReplyDeleteI replaced the drive pot with a c50k too and now it works great!!!
ReplyDeletethanks for the layout!!!
