Marshall Blues Breaker Mk.I

The Blues Breaker was designed to emulate the vintage 2x12 Marshall combo, and was introduced by Marshall in 1991. Great at pushing a clean amp into breakup and sounds great with single coils. There has since been a Bluesbreaker II, which many claim to be inferior to the original. This layout is for the original model with onboard pots and will fit in a 1590B.

Note that the PCB layout is half a row (0.05 in/1.27mm) taller than the perf layout.

    1. If I don't draw the schematic myself I don't post it. Often times I'll link to it, especially if it's from a source with extra information on the circuit like RunOffGroove.com or a FSB/DIYSB thread. Typically though, the schematics are easily found online. A little Google searching never hurt anyone. ;)

  5. Hi Thank You for your amazing work! I have a question: what if I use a 50K Pot intead of the 25?
    Thank You

    1. It would work, tho the range would probably be a little weird. I'd throw a 47k resistor from lug 1 to lug 3 of your 50k pot. That'll reduce the pots value down to about 25k.

  7. Yeah a drill template would be great.

  8. Which side of the board should the potentiometers be mounted? I have tried using your legend in the "General Layout Notes" section, but have noticed the same blank pot shape being used for both component and solder side board-mounted layouts.

    1. Mount them from the solder side so the shafts of the pots are pointing away from the board.

    2. Thanks -- I appreciate the response! I'll mount them such that they face upwards while the components point downwards. From what I understand, doing so seems to be the standard, so I'll try to keep it in mind while looking at your other designs unless their description says otherwise.

  9. Verified! It sounds and looks fantastic.

For anyone asking for a drilling template: Help yourself by finding an existing layout that fits the pot layout and enclosure size. Just be sure not to drill input/output jacks too close to the edge of the enclosure and to pick up some small knobs for this build (nothing wider than 5/8" skirt).

    Thanks again!
