Devi Ever Hyperion

This is a pretty cool distortion effect from Seattle based designer Devi Ever. In her own words:

The Hyperion is everything the Big Muff wishes it could be. It can cut through in a loud, live, band setting. It has a gorgeous sustain that full of harmonically rich tonal characteristics that doesn't require much tweaking of your amp, guitar, or pedal board to get just the right sound you are looking for.

If you want to make the Hyperion 2, simply use a B100k pot, connect the ground from the board to lug 2 and then ground lug 1. Be sure that no other ground connections are going to the board, or it won't work. This creates oscillation by limiting how much the effect is grounded.

    1. You're right. The 2.2M resistor and the 2, 100n weren't connected as they should have been. Fixed. Thanks for the catch.

  2. So, change status to verificed. I used 2 x 2N5088 and @N2907. Big sustain, big bass, big fuzz, big dirt and fine foggy oscilation in 1590A. Lovely box

  4. I built this one today.
    Amazing sound!
I think I'll get rid of my muff and keep this on my pedalboard.
Thank you for a great layout

  5. Great layout, David. As always.
I would like to add, to the future builder: to make it to oscillate (Hyperion 2) just avoid the 47uf cap to ground.
    Or it won't work.

    1. Theoretically, yes. Might need to tweak some resistors to get it to bias correctly, but could be very cool.

    2. Thanks, yesterday I tried to put an AC125 (hFE 101) in Q3, and a 10K trimmer instead of the resistance that goes from Q2 / Q3 to + 9V, but the sound is very gated, I would like a more open sound, what can I do ? Thank you.

    1. It's a PNP. I think a 2N3906 will work as well.

  9. With this layout are the potentiometers soldered on to the copper side of the board or on the side with components? I'm a little bit confused on which lug goes where.
