Since I did the Blower Box yesterday, and it's essentially a RAT, I figured it wouldn't take too much effort to convert that layout to the original. So here's the original '86 RAT.
this thing sounds ridiculously great !, i did it stock but made 2 boards, next one is with the ruetz mod and mosfets clippers. its so versatile, can be used as overdrive, distortion and almost all out fuzz where bemded notes swell into the stratosphere !
Thank you so much for this great layout. It fits 1590A and I put a SPDT switch to choose Si or Ge diodes clipping. You works are so great and I keep build from your site. May I have a request? May you draw RoG Britannia layout? I really appreciate it.
Howdy. Just built this lil fella. I'm getting a high pitched squeal when I turn the GAIN pot counterclockwise, and there is also a huge gain loss bump when 90% dialed clockwise... I read in 2 different places now that it's caused by the layout.. any one care to comment? thanks! PS awesome blog. can't thank you enough, mate!
Hello! I'm pretty sure that lugs 1,2 and 3 for the Filter and Gain pots are backwards! Filter should be lugs 2 & 3 (not 1 & 2) going to 1.5K resistor and Gain should be lugs 2 & 3 (not 1 & 2) going to IC's pin #6. That's why your gain pot is behaving weird.
Hello everybody, this effect sounds great. Thank you very much. Now, i must say that the Gain increase in a counterclock way, that´s wrong. Number one pin of Gain pot must go to cap5, r7 , r8 and ic2.

Tone knob is supposed to be wired backwards: more treble counterclockwise and more bass clockwise. I believe the numbers on the Filter and Gain pots are backwards.

Hi, I'm not getting any output. Just some sputtering. The bypass works. I am using an LM308AN ic and I read online that pins 2, 3 and 6 are supposed to be 4.5V. My input at pin 3 is 4.5V, but my output at pin 6 is 9V. Pin 2 is also 9v. I have a 2nd LM308AN and tried it but I saw the same issue. I tried an OP07 chip and it seems to work, except that the distortion is super extreme/sputtery. I've tried to research all over the internet/forums but I cannot figure out what's wrong. I'm also using a linear pot for gain instead of a log pot (I don't think that matters). Everything else is per the schematic.

ReplyDeletethis is the true metal head pedal, the real one !
pedal sounds amazing !

ReplyDeleteDude, don´t get me wrong, RESPECT+++ for you! BUT why don´t you put a component list with the circuits? Would make a lot easier for us!
ReplyDeleteOnce again, RESPECT+++
Howdy.

DeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteA bit late but...
I fixed the problems below by wiring the thing a bit differently.
The answer is in the GGG (general guitar gadgets) rodent wiring.

ReplyDeleteThat seems to be correct. The Filter pot is also backwards. It should be lugs 2 & 3 (not 1 & 2) going to 1.5K resistor.
DeleteAre the 2n4148s supposed to be 1n4148s?
ReplyDeleteThat's just a typo. Should be 1N4148
DeleteHi.
ReplyDeleteAny sub/equivalent for this layout replacing 2n5458 transistor?
Thanks.
Hi.
ReplyDeletecan i use 2SC1815 for this pedal?

ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeletethe diode says "2n4148", is this an error? Because 2N are transistors, diodes are 1N
Yes, just a typo. 1N4148 is the correct part.

DeleteVerified. It sound pretty good with TL071 and 2N2457
ReplyDeleteThe tone knob increases the volume at the very end (most treble sound). Any ideas?

ReplyDeleteHai can i repleacing 2n5458

DeleteI think is the slew rate of your IC, LM308 is 0.3 V/us ; LM386A... is around 10 V/us.
ReplyDeleteGuys, I just don't understand where the output goes. Can someone help me?
